Game Theory and Strategy quant interview practice.

Game and strategy questions ask candidates to reason about incentives, information, and optimal responses rather than calculate a probability in isolation. The reviewed collection covers alternating-move games, mixed strategies, stopping choices, adversarial puzzles, and payoff comparisons. A productive approach is to specify the state, legal actions, terminal outcomes, and whose information is available before searching for a strategy. Work backward in finite games, identify invariants in repeated moves, and test whether a proposed mixed strategy makes the opponent indifferent. When randomness is present, separate strategic choices from chance events and compute the expected payoff conditional on each action. Clear solutions also distinguish a strategy that wins against one response from a strategy that is robust against every optimal response. These exercises develop concise explanations of why a rule is optimal, not merely what move to make.
